He is a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service (current chair of the uninterrupted flow group), the TRB committee on roundabouts, and the TRB Simulation Systems Manual Task Force, and he chairs the Simulation and Capacity Model users Group (SimCap) for the North Carolina Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (NCSITE).

Schroeder has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings. He is also a contributing author to the new Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Transportation Systems Simulation Manual (TSSM). Recently, he oversaw the development of all freeway chapters in the 6th Edition of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) published in 2016. He routinely applies multiresolution modeling solutions to multimodal transportation problems, and serves as a company-wide resource for QA/QC and senior advice for operations projects. He specializes in traffic analysis and modeling, data analytics and visualization, and traffic operations on surface streets, freeways and interchanges.
